October 18th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a classic animated film, a visit to Walt Disney World by a President, and the announcement of a new Disney World resort.

Ten Who Dared Released (1960)
On this day in 1960, Ten Who Dared was released.

The film told the story of United States Army officer John Wesley Powell who was the first to travel up the Colorado River and map the region.
The Jungle Book Released (1967)
On this day in 1967, The Jungle Book was released.

The film was a musical adaptation of the classic Rudyard Kipling tale and the last animated film personally supervised by Walt Disney.
Richard Nixon Visits Walt Disney World (1971)
On this day in 1971, President Richard Nixon visited Walt Disney World for a special showing of The Hall of Presidents.

Run, Cougar, Run Released (1972)
On this day in 1972, Run, Cougar, Run was released.

Roger Broggie Becomes a Disney Legend (1990)
On this day in 1990, Roger Broggie was inducted as a Disney Legend.

Tiger Woods Visits Walt Disney World (2003)
On this day in 2003, Tiger Woods visited Walt Disney World.

Disney Announces New “Nature-Inspired” Resort (2019)
On this day in 2019, Disney announced it would be constructing a new “nature-inspired” resort on the land formally occupied by River Country.

The resort would alter be named Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge, but would be delayed due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Released (2019)
On this day in 2019, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opened in theaters.

The film was a sequel to 2014’s Maleficient and starred Angelina Jolie in the title role.
