Disney Is Hiring For A New Communications Executive To “Lead Crisis Response Efforts”
Bob Iger was brought back to The Walt Disney Company in November 2022 to be a calming presence.
His predecessor, Bob Chapek, had alienated Disney’s creative talent, publically feuded with Marvel star Scarlet Johannson, and somehow managed to appease neither side of the culture war with his response to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill (which critics dubbed “Don’t Say Gay”). Finally, Chapek’s tone-deaf response to Disney’s disastrous Q3 earnings call was reportedly the last straw.

Almost a year into Iger’s return, however, things have not run as smoothly as planned.
Disney continues to find itself in a very public battle with Florida Govenor Ron DeSantis and thus in the center of political discourse.

Bob Iger returned to the company in November 2022.
More damaging, however, were Iger’s statements about the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
Iger’s PR Blunder
In an interview with CNBC, Iger called the strikers “not realistic” in their demands. Additionally, he said the work stoppage was coming “at the worst time in the world”.

Both striking Hollywood creatives and their allies in the media were quick to pounce on Iger’s comments. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said Iger “stuck his foot in it so bad that you notice they’re not letting any of the other CEOs open their mouths.”
Disney Hiring New Communications Executive
Perhaps then, it makes sense that Disney is now looking to hire a communications executive “with the goal of enhancing and protecting reputation” by “manag[ing] reputation research.”
The new vice president of public affairs is expected to lead a “communications team to assist senior executives in preparing for media events” and “interviews.”

The Walt Disney Company is hiring.
In addition to hiring a new vice president, Disney is also looking for a senior specialist in employee communication and engagement. The posting also alludes to the development of an “internal crisis communications response playbook”.
No matter what lies ahead with both DeSantis, or the Hollywood strikes, it seems as if Disney is making sure they are prepared.
