Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 12.
April 12th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the debut of a Pluto cartoon, the opening of Euro Disneyland, and the release of a claymation feature film. So, let’s get started!
Pluto’s Kid Brother Released (1946)
On this day in 1946, Pluto’s Kid Brother was released.
In the cartoon, Pluto’s kid brother K.B. keeps getting himself into trouble.
Euro Disneyland Opens (1992)
On this day in 1992, Euro Disneyland officially opened to the public!
The park was made up of six themed lands- Adventureland, Discoveryland, Fantasyland, Festival Disney, Frontierland, and Main Street.
Opening day attractions included Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Tours, Orbitron, Peter Pan’s Flight, It’s a Small World, Phantom Manor, and Thunder Mesa.
Papeete Bay Verandah Closes (1995)
On this day in 1995, Papeete Bay Verandah closed at the Polynesian Resort.
The restaurant was replaced by ‘Ohana, which featured the world’s largest fire pit.
James and the Giant Peach Opens (1996)
On this day in 1996, James and the Giant Peach opened.
The film was created using claymation and was based on the story by Roald Dahl.
World of Color Closes (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2018, World of Color was unexpectedly closed at Disney California Adventure.
The show was closed following reports of damage to the underwater platform that supports the show’s fountains, lights, and water-mist projection screens.
World of Color would reopen in February 2019.
