This Day in Disney History- March 29
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 29!
March 29th featured the debut of a new Disneyland attraction, the premiere of a new Broadway show, and the release of a live-action remake of a Disney classic! So, let’s get going!
Disney Sings Railway Deal (1955)
On this day in 1955, The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway signed a 5-year contract with Disney.
The agreement paid the railway $50,000 per year in exchange for the use of the company logo and name “Sante Fe” on all Disneyland trains, stations and literature.
Miracle of the White Stallions Released (1963)
On this day in 1963, Miracle of the White Stallions was released.
The film starred Robert Taylor, Eddie Albert and James Franciscus. It told the story of Colonel Alois Podhajsky, who saved the Spanish Riding School, and its horses, during WWII.
Disneyland’s Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade Opens (1985)
On this day in 1985, The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade opened in Disneyland.
The shooting gallery was a copy of the Walt Disney World attraction which opened in 1971.
The Rookie Released (2002)
On this day in 2002, The Rookie was released.
The filmed starred Dennis Quaid as Jim Morris, who was a high school baseball coach who made it to the big leagues.
Newsies Hits Broadway (2012)
On this day in 2012, Disney’s Newsies officially opened on Broadway.
Premiering at the Nederlander Theatre, the show was based on the 1992 film of the same name.
Dumbo Released (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, Disney’s live action Dumbo was released.
Directed by Tim Burton, the film starred Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Alan Arkin. It was inspired by the 1941 classic animated film.
