Jon Favreau Addresses How Long The Mandalorian Will Last
With the Mandalorian now halfway through its third season, many have wondered just how long the series will run for.
In a sit-down with EW’s Dagobah Dispatch, series creator Jon Favreau didn’t sound like he was in any hurry to stop production anytime soon.

“I’m having a blast, and I love working with Dave, and I love how the characters develop over time,” says Favreau. “I also love that there are other stories now being told in that same time period, like Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew.”
An Expanded Universe
By expanding what fans have called the “Mandalorian Universe”, Favreau and Dave Filoni have increased the number of characters they can use, and stories they can tell. Key Mandalorian characters like Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano have received their own series in the wake of the show’s success.

“Now it feels like there’s a larger context for me to understand,” says Favreau. “Because we just knew what happened after [The Mandalorian], and we knew what happened before, and there’s a lot to draw upon from additional stories that were told outside of what’s considered official canon now, but is held very dearly to the fans who’ve been at it for decades. And so we like to take all of that into consideration.”

An Enjoyable Experience
When pressed Favreau, would not give a timeframe for who long the series would run. He did however, talk about how much he still enjoys the project.

“I really have been enjoying this tremendously and I love these characters and I love seeing how they’re growing together,” says Favreau. “I’ve really enjoyed working with this group of people and I love collaborating with all these different filmmakers and different storytellers, both from the directors we work with, and other showrunners like Dave and, and others like [Skeleton Crew’s] Jon Watts and Chris Ford.”

So How Long Will The Mandalorian Run
In the end, it sounds like The Mandalorian will continue for as long as the filmmaker enjoys the processes.

“I don’t know what would make me not enjoy doing it, especially as long as the audience is connecting with these characters. This feels like a really enjoyable moment. And I love this format of telling one chapter at a time and keeping the audience guessing, but also fulfilling certain expectations.”
I for one, can’t wait to see where Favreau and his team take Mando’s story next.
