What is the Lake Nona Campus
Originally announced in July 2021, the Lake Nona campus will serve as the new headquarters for Walt Disney Imagineering as well as other jobs in the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products division.
In total, it is expected that around 2,000 employees will have their jobs moved from Glendale, California to the new Central Florida hub.

At the time of its announcement, Disney President of Parks, Experiences and Products Josh D’Amaro had this to say:
“This new project will create a dynamic environment to support our expanding business. A brand-new regional campus which will be built in the vibrant Lake Nona community of Orlando, Florida.” D’Amaro said in the letter.
“With more than 60,000 Cast Members, Imagineers and employees, Central Florida has long been home to many of our businesses. This includes the Walt Disney World Resort and most of our Disney Signature Experiences team.”

A Three Year Delay
While Disney had initially hoped to open the new campus in 2023, the project was delayed. According to Disney, the delay was necessary to give California employees more time to consider the move and to facilitate the new office’s construction timeline. Disney now hopes to open Lake Nona by 2026.

When completed, the campus is expected to cost Disney upwards of $1.3 billion.
What’s Next
If the board approves Disney’s master plan on March 9, the next steps in the process would include submitting an official site plan for the city’s appearance review board. Then, Disney would be able to apply for building permits and begin groundbreaking on the project.

While tomorrow’s committee review is largely a formality for Disney and Lake Nona master developer Tavistock Development Co., the project will continue to be heavily covered.
With the company’s recent public battles with Governor Ron DeSantis, some wondered if the project would be canceled altogether.

Nevertheless, Disney is plowing ahead, and it looks like the Lake Nona campus will soon be a reality.
