February 12th was a slower day in Walt Disney history, but it still had some big events. A Medfield College film was released, a new American Idol attraction opened, and a Cinderella celebration was held! So, let’s get into it.

The Misadventures of Merlin Jones Premiers (1964)
On this day in 1964, The Misadventures of Merlin Jones premiered in Florida.

The live-action movie starred Tommy Kirk (as Merlin Jones), Annette Funicello and Leon Ames. In the film, Merlin Jones’ experiments with mind-reading and hypnotism get him in trouble!
My Favorite Martian Released (1999)
On this day in 1999, Disney’s My Favorite Martian was released.
The film told the story of a Martian spacecraft that accidentally crash landed on Earth. After seeing the crash, an ambitious television reporter imagines the fame that will come with breaking the news.

A Cinderella Royal Ball Is Held (2000)
On this day in 2000, a royal ball was held at the Disneyland Hotel.

The ball was put on for 50th anniversary of Cinderella. Disney fans were invited to dress up in tuxedos and formal gowns and listen to Disney Legends tell the story of Cinderella’s creation.
The American Idol Experience Has a Grand Opening (2009)
Finally, on this day in 2009, The American Idol Experience had a grand opening event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
On hand for the festivities were American Idol winners David Cook and Carrie Underwood who performed a duet inside the new attraction’s theater.

Also in attendance for the festivities were all seven American Idol winners, Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest.
