This Day in Disney History- February 7
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 7.
February 7th was a slower day in Disney history, but it did feature the release of a monumental film, the dedication of an original Disney California Adventure show, and a debut on Disney +. So, let’s get started!
Pinocchio is Released (1940)
On this day in 1940, Disney’s Pinocchio premiered at the Central Theatre in New York City.
Disney’s second animated feature, the film tells the story of a wooden puppet who, with the help of a cricket named Jiminy, must prove himself worthy to be a real boy.
Mickey’s Birthday Party Released (1942)
On this day in 1942, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey’s Birthday Party was released.
In the short, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Clara Duck through Mickey a surprise birthday party!
Golden Dreams Dedicated (2001)
On this day in 2001, Disney officially dedicated Golden Dreams at Disney California Adventure.
The ceremony was hosted by Bob Iger and featured Whoopi Goldberg and Rene Goldsberry. Golden Dreams told the story of the history of California, and starred Whoopi Goldberg as Calafia, the Queen of California.
Bambi II Released
On this day in 2006, Bambi II was released direct to home video
A sequel to the Disney classic Bambi, the film takes place between the death of Bambi’s mother in the original film, and his reemergence as an adult buck.
The film is also notable for being the last Disney film released on VHS.
Disney Announces American Idol Attraction (2008)
On this day in 2008, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts announced it would be creating an “American Idol” attraction for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The attraction would eventually open as the American Idol Experience on February 14, 2009.
Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made Debuts (2020)
Finally, on this day in 2020, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made debuted on Disney +.
The new film followed an 11-year old boy named Timmy who believes he is the best detective in town.
