Angela Bassett won the Golden Globe for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, making it the first time an actor has ever won a major individual acting award for a Marvel movie! Afterward, Bassett became the first Oscar-nominated actress for a Marvel film.
Making History on Disney+
Now, Black Panther is making history again, via Disney’s streaming platform. Forbes reports that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has now become the most-streamed Marvel movie to premiere on Disney+!

The film bumped out other competitors such as Marvel’s Eternals, Black Widow, and Avengers: Endgame. On February 1, it arrived on Disney+, only three months after its premiere in theaters.
During the last 5 days, it’s accumulated more streamed hours than any other Marvel film over the same period of time. During opening weekend, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brought in $181 million, breaking records at the box office.

Previously, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire boasted the biggest opening weekend in November, with over $158 million in 2013. As 2022 came to a close, Black Panther 2’s numbers topped $800 million at the global box office.
The sequel’s plot follows Wakandans in the aftermath of King T’Challa’s death. Currently, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is nominated for 5 Oscars with the 95th Academy Awards ceremony commencing on March 12, 2023.
