Despite Policy Changes, Distancing Remains at Beauty and the Beast LIVE
We’re inching closer to pre-pandemic normalcy each and every day at Walt Disney World! Face-to-face character meets are back and masks are no longer required on Disney Property! Not only can we hug characters again, but they are once again allowed to be within closer proximity to each other too!
Festival of Fantasy Parade saw a return to a pre-pandemic roster of characters just 48 hours ago when the Beast re-joined Belle- shoulder-to-shoulder- on the parade’s inaugural float! Despite these recent changes and the progress towards the return to ‘normal’, one show is still operating fully under social distancing guidelines.
Beauty and the Beast LIVE Onstage
Beauty and the Beast LIVE Onstage made its grand return to Hollywood Studios last year to a warm welcome. At the time, performers were required to be placed 6ft apart at all times while onstage. This policy called for changes to the show by reducing the number of performers and changing the choreography.
We stopped into a performance of Beauty and the Beast LIVE Onstage today and were surprised to see the actors practicing social distancing. In each of the show’s scenes, actors and dancers never touched and maintained a strict 6ft apart while onstage.
The intimately staged moments between Belle and the Beast- like when Belle comforts him and professes her love after his fight- have yet to return.
To be clear: it would require significant rehearsal time to fully transition Beauty and the Beast LIVE back to its pre-pandemic spacing. But with all other distancing lifted around WDW, we’re wondering just how long it will take before we see Belle and the Beast dance together onstage once again.
