The Way New Tech Shapes Your Disney World Visit
Did you know that Disney has a Technology and Digital team who’s goal is to work behind the scenes to transform the Disney experience using software, robotics and more!?
Last year, a group of innovators were tasked with coming up with ways to reduce the amount of time that cast members across the company spend on repetitive tasks thus allowing them to spend more time focusing on guests.
“Our guests don’t always see the innovative technology solutions our teams are putting in place, and that is by design,” said Pradeep Krishnamurthy, Vice President of Technology. “We have numerous teams in Technology and Digital who are working behind the scenes to create stress-free magic not only for our guests, but for our cast and crew as well.”
The result of this meeting of the minds was the implementation of Robotic Process Animation. This is technology that can mimic monotonous tasks with machines. This can encompass everything from reading and processing documents to mimicing human interactions to perform common tasks!
For instance, in the past, a cast member may have needed to step away from interacting with a guest to process a transaction or for data entry. Add this up over the course of a day and you have a substantial amount of time away from customer service. Now, this cast member can fast-track these tasks my taking advantage of an “automated workflow.”
Over the course of the last year, the team working on these automated processes has grown from five to nine cast members and now incorporates physical robotics. To date, the team have identified 200 different ways this technology can be used at the company.
If you booked a trip on the Galactic Starcruiser, organized a gathering with Disney Meetings & Events or popped by Guest Relations to get assistance with Lightning Lane then you’ve seen this tech in action. The technologist were behind the scenes making the process smoother for both you and the cast members.
Though often working unseen behind-the-scenes, they’re there leveraging technology so that cast and guests can have a more enjoyable, streamlined experience. Pretty cool right!?
