Obtaining a United States Passport Just Became More Expensive
If you have tried to obtain a United States passport in recent months, you know how hard it can be with extra-long wait times. Well, getting a new United States passport book or renewing a current one just became even harder with The United States State Department putting into effect a price increase.

Starting today, it will cost United States Citizen an additional $20 to apply for a new passport book or renew a current one. The price for new passport books and renewals is as follows:
New Passport Books:
- Adults: $165 which includes a $130 application fee and $35 acceptance fee
- Minors: $135 which includes a $100 application fee and a $35 acceptance fee

With the $20 increase, the new cost to renew an adult passport is $130.
It’s important to note that these totals do NOT include an expedition fee of $60. With the current turnaround time of a passport increase being eight to eleven weeks, if you plan to take a trip out of the country within the next month or so, it’s important to add this option to your application fee.

It’s also important to note that the increase for United States passports does not include those looking for a new passport card or passport card renewal. The fee for these remains at $30 for adults and $15 for children. However, passport cards are only valid for travel to Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico.
