Biometric Finger Scanning Returns to Walt Disney World
When the COVID pandemic started to impact the United States back in 2020, Walt Disney World temporarily suspended the biometric finger scanning requirement to enter the Parks. Since reopening back in Summer 2020, this requirement was still suspended – until now!
As of today, we can confirm that the Biometric finger scan requirement is once again in effect at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
In addition, online reports indicate that the requirement returned to Disney’s Animal Kingdom yesterday and to Blizzard Beach this past Sunday.
Biometric finger scanning has not yet returned to EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom but most likely will later this week.
The decision to suspend the finger scans back in March 2020 was due large in part to these being high-touch areas and Disney looking at any ways that can to keep Guests safe and healthy. Before this requirement was suspended completely, a Cast Member would wipe down each finger scanner with sanitizer between each Guests.
Without requiring Guests to scan their fingers along with their theme park admission for entry, those who were Annual Passholders could easily give their annual passes or MagicBand to a friend so they could use them for entry. I would believe that Disney was anxious to bring back the biometric finger scan to crack down on this loophole.
While biometric finger scans are back at Walt Disney World, hand sanitizing stations are still available at the entrances to each Theme Park so Guests can immediately wash away any germs immediately after entering each Park.
There also is a way to opt out of scanning your finger to enter but it will delay your entry into the Parks.
Walt Disney World bringing back biometric finger scanning is just one way things are getting back to “normal” in the parks. Currently, masks are only required indoors and on transportation options.
