Man Arrested At Disney World For Refusing To Have His Temperature Checked
According to a recent piece on Radio.com, last month, Kelly Sills was arrested at Walt Disney World Resort for refusing to wear a face mask. According to officials, Sills made it past the medical tent that was set up at Disney Springs and proceeded to make his way through the complex without getting his temperature checked. Sills was reported to have been yelling at security and was arrested for his refusal to leave Disney Springs.
That’s just one a few incidents that have occurred as a result of guests refusing to comply with Disney World’s health & safety protocols according to reports filed with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Earlier this week, we here at MickeyBlog reported that some cast members working at Walt Disney World Resort had reported getting spat on, pushed or yelled at by guests who they were trying to get to follow along with Disney’s COVID-19 policies. This is according to a recent piece in Newsweek that is based on reports from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The Newsweek piece highlights several instances of guests being unruly when asked to follow along with the policies.
One such example given was an encounter between a security guard and a guest at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in February. The security guard reported that the man spat at him after the guard reminded him to wear a face covering. According to the report, the man told the guard, “I’m a guest” before he spat and some of the saliva was reported to have hit the guard’s forehead.
The guest fled before he could be identified.
Though Disney World has reported on the occasional incidents of people not following the COVD rules, most guests have been compliant since the theme parks reopened last Summer according to a company spokesman. Andrea Finger, a spokesperson for Disney said, “Millions of guests visit our theme parks each year, and in rare instances when things of this nature occur, we hold them accountable.”
Just last month Disney made a modification to its face mask policy that mandates that guests wear masks at sit down dining experiences unless they are actually eating and drinking. This includes standing, waiting or sitting in the lobby areas.
Guests planning a Disney World getaway should be prepared as these policies and procedures in place to stop the spread of COVID-19 are here to stay. As last month during an earnings call when the theme parks might return to normal Disney CEO Bob Chapek said, : “We have no doubt that when we reopen up in parks that were closed, or increase capacity, that that we will have some level of social distancing and mask wearing for the remainder of this year. That is our expectation.”
