Big Changes to the Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group Process at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Have you been lucky enough to get a coveted boarding group for Rise of the Resistance yet? If so, count yourself lucky as they can be impossible to get. However, Disney has just announced a change in the process of acquiring a Rise of the Resistance boarding group in efforts to make it a tad easier for everyone.

Beginning November 3, 2020, Guests will no longer be required to be physically inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios to obtain a boarding group and get in the Rise of the Resistance’s virtual queue. Any Guests who have a valid ticket admission and a Disney Park Pass theme park reservation will now be able to access a boarding group beginning at 7 am the morning of their Disney Park Pass.This can be done at your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel or where ever you might be nearby at that time.
Currently, Rise of the Resistance boarding groups are assigned at 10 am and 2 pm and you must be physically inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios to obtain one.

Guests unable to get a boarding group at 7 am when the virtual queue opens will still have a second change of obtaining one at 2 pm. However, for the 2pm Rise of the Resistance boarding group drop, Guests will be required to be in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to obtain one.
In addition, Disney has just modified the Rise of the Resistance First Order Fleet Transport vehicles with a clear barrier between two rows of seats to accommodate more Guests while still mainlining social distancing protocols. This in turn means more board groups and more Guests will be able to enjoy the attraction each day.
To get your boarding group and access the Rise of the Resistance virtual. make sure you are logged into the My Disney Experience app and follow these instructions:
- Register an account in My Disney Experience
- Download the My Disney Experience mobile app on your smart device or ensure you’re using the most updated version of the app before you arrive at the park.
- Have a valid Disney Park Pass reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the day you’re visiting
- Link all park tickets in your party to your My Disney Experience account
- Select one member of your party to access the virtual queue for everyone in your group; if multiple people in your party try to join the virtual queue simultaneously, that may complicate your ability to secure a boarding group
- Remember, virtual queue boarding groups are limited and subject to availability
