Celebrate The Spooky Season With These 7 Tim Burton Films On Disney+
Tim Burton and the spooky season seemingly go hand-in-hand. That’s why we here at MickeyBlog thought what better way to celebrate the month of October than by sharing with you some of the awesome films from this incredibly imaginative director that are currently on Disney+
We can’t think of a better way to have a Halloween-inspired family movie night then by watching one or more of this films!
Frankenweenie (1984)
Before the stop motion version of Frankenweenie that we’ve all come to know and love there was this short film version starring Barret Oliver (who you’ll recognize as Bastian from The Neverending Story.) In this short, the Frankenstein family’s dog is brought back to life after a tragi accident but causes an uproar in his neighborhood and Victor must convince his neighbors that despite his appearance he is still man’s best friend.
Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
This fantastical story has become a cult classic. Jack Skellington (voiced by Chris Sarandon) is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town who stumbles upon a Christmas Town. Jack quickly decides to bring some of the Christmas magic home before ultimately deciding to fill Santa’s shows. However, his plans soon unravel and its up to Sally to patch things up.
James and the Giant Peach (1996)
Produced by Burton, this take on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book of the same name follows James (James Henry Trotter) who acquires magic crocodile tongues after rescuing a spider from his mean aunts. James accidentally drops them in the garden and in the very same spot a giant peach starts to grow. Inside the peach James find a group of human-sized insects including a centipede, earthworm, glowworm, grasshopper, lady bug and spider. This motley crew tries to escape from James’ evil aunts.
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Drawing its inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s classic novel and Disney’s classic animated film, the movie follows Alice (Wasikowska) who returns to the fantastical world she first explored as a child. One her journey she encounters the Mad Hatter (Depp), the White Queen (Hathaway), the Red Queen (Bonham Carter), the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen), Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas), Cheshire (Stephen Fry) and other colorful characters including the evil Jabberwocky (Christopher Lee.)
Frankenweenie (2012)
Turning his short into this 2012 feature film of the same name, Frankenweenie follows the same (though slightly expanded) story of Victor Frankenstein who after unexpectedly loses his beloved dog Spark uses science to bring his canine companion back to life. However, with some obvious tweaks, Victor tries to keep the dog hidden away. But when Sparky manages to escape the neighborhood is up in arms.
Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016)
In this popular sequel to 2010’s hit Alice in Wonderland Alice (Wasikowska) is older and wiser having followed in her father’s footsteps of sailing the high seas. When she returns to long, she discovers a looking glass that magically transports Alice to the Underland. She learns that the Madd Hatter (Depp) has lost his Muchness. The White Queen sends Alice off on yet another adventure to find the Chronosphere which controls time. Heading into the past, its up to Alice to face time (in the form of Sacha Baron Cohen) in order to save her friend.
Dumbo (2019)
Seventy-eight years after the original animated film flew its way into people’s hearts, Burton updated this beloved tale to a live-action adventure. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) recruits a former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his kids to care for a newborn elephant with oversized ears that make him a laughingstock in a traveling circus. However, whent hey discover that Dumbo can fly the circus suddenly becomes a HUGE success. Dumbo soon attractions the attention of VA Vandevere (Michael Keaton) who recruits the pachyderm for a new show. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside the beautiful and charming aerial artist Colette Marchant (Eva Green.) However all is not as magical as it seems.
