Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to Remain Closed Until Summer 2021 for Refurbishment
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has been closed since the entire Walt Disney World Resort closed back in March because of the COVID-19 outbreak. It was originally scheduled to reopen earlier this month and then the opening date was pushed back until October 4, 2020. Now, Disney has announced the Polynesian will remain closed until Summer 2021.

While part of the extended closure for the Polynesian is in response to lower crowds at Walt Disney World, it also appears Disney is taking this time to refurbish the Resort as well. Refurbishments include enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and Guest rooms. The official statement from Disney states:
As we continue to reopen additional Disney Resort hotels to Guests, we are modifying the reopening date for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort which will reopen next summer. This schedule adjustment also allows us to complete some refurbishment work at the Resort hotel, including enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and Guest rooms. We expect work to begin in early October and look forward to sharing more about these changes in the future.

While an exact reopening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has not been announced other than “Summer 2021,” the official Walt Disney World reservation site allows bookings for this Resort to begin again as of May 21, 2021.
During the Polynesian’s extended closure, Disney’s Polynesian’s Villas & Bungalows will remain open.
