Ryan Reynolds Says Bringing ‘Deadpool 3’ To Disney Is Good For Everyone Involved
As we’ve previously mentioned here at MickeyBlog there is much speculation as to what Disney’s acquisition of Fox last year will mean for the future of the Deadpool franchise, but according to actor and producer Ryan Reynolds, fans have nothing to worry about!
The 2016 film released by 20th Century Fox was a critical and commercial success despite its R rating primarily for its sarcastic tone and raunchy humor. The 2018 sequel was also a blockbuster for the studios. This by all accounts would make an investment in a third film a good bet.
Disney hasn’t been particularly clear about what the future holds for the franchise but that hasn’t stopped Reynolds from talking about the benefits of another Deadpool film in a recent interview with Total Film. During an interview for his upcoming film Free Guy, Reynolds had this to say about Deadpool now belonging to the House of Mouse and what this means for the franchise going forward,
“I don’t feel like an insider at all. I think once I’m more intimate with it – if we get to make a Deadpool 3… if or when we get to make a Deadpool 3, I’ll probably have a better perspective on that. But I’m a huge fan of Marvel, and how they make movies. So when Disney bought Fox, I only saw that as a good thing. Deadpool hopefully being allowed to play in that sandbox, I think is just a win for everyone involved. But we’ll certainly see.”
As ScreenRant points out, Disney is being a bit tight-lipped about what their plans are for the superheroes that it inherited from FOX. We do know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be entering Phase 4, so it will be interesting to see whether Deadpool will be integrated into the MCU during this time and whether that means cameos in other films or a standalone project.
Last year, Reynolds was a little more forthcoming with details saying that a third Deadpool film was in development. However, things have been pretty quiet since then. With studios dark during the COVID-19 shutdown, it may be a while before we hear more about Deadpool 3. However, This is a story we’ll be following closely.
