Adorable Porcupette Named In Honor of Disney Cast Member
Here at MickeyBlog, nothing really warms our hearts more than a cute photo of animal babies and today Disney delivers. Earlier this week we shared that Animal Kingdom was celebrating the arrival of a prehensile-tailed porcupine at the theme parks conservation station.
Today, we’re back with the news that this delightful little critter has been given a name! I give you…Shelley!
We don’t know about you but we think that this name perfectly suits this new arrival and to make it even better the name does have special meaning. The Animals, Science and Environment Team named the baby in honor of the Veterinary Operations Manager Shelley who had a very important role to play in Shelley’s birth.
Shelley worked with the baby porcupine’s mom Peri to participate in ultrasounds necessary for prenatal care. Some of these sessions were even featured on One Day at Disney. This amazing documentary series focuses on the incredible things that happen at Disney locations around the world over the course of a day. If you’ve not had a chance to check it out, definitely make it part of your weekend plans.
Shelley and Peri have a very special bond and the porcupette gets bigger and stronger every day. She currently ways in at over two pounds. This means her weight has tripled since she was born.
Though the theme parks are currently shuttered Disney Cast Members continue to take care of the animals day in and day out. We recommend you check out the Animals, Science and Environment page on Facebook as well as by following Vice President Dr. Mark Penning on Instagram at @DrMarkAtDisney.
