Disney Delaying the Opening of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure
This news will come as little surprise but it would appear that Disneyland is removing traces of an official opening for the new Avengers Campus slated to open at Disney California Adventure Park this Summer.
The previously announced date for the opening was listed as July 18th but the opening date has been removed from the website and according to a piece in the Orange County Register, officials have confirmed that the project will be delayed. When visiting the Disneyland website, it now simply says “Coming Soon.”
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, both of Disney’s Anaheim parks, Downtown Disney and Disneyland’s three hotels are closed to the public until further notice.
Construction on the Avengers Campus has been halted during the coronavirus closures in keeping with guidelines set up by local health officials. This will obviously have an impact on projected timelines for the project according to Disney officials.
As you may remember, Disney officially announced the opening date of the Avengers Campus A DAY BEFORE the company announced that it would be closing the parks due to the growing COVID-19 threat. As the Orange County Register points out, it is hard to believe that this was only a month ago as some much has changed since then.
Aspects of the Avengers Campus were slated to be released in phases. The First Phase of the project was expected to open with a NEW Spider-Man themed attraction giving guests the ability to sling webs just like the superhero. A Doctor Strange special effects show was also in the cards for Phase 1 as well as an Ant-Man and the Wasp themed restaurant, rooftop shows and additional Marvel character meet and greets.
The second phase of the project is expected to feature an as of yet unannounced Avengers-themed e-ticket attraction.
