Head of Story For ‘Raya and The Last Dragon’ Voted One of Animag’s Rising Stars of 2020
Disney has a wide array of awesome films coming our way in the year ahead and one we are particularly excited about is Raya and the Last Dragon. This upcoming fantasy-action-adventure from Walt Disney Animation Studios hasn’t even hit theaters and already Head of Story for the film – Prasansook “Fawn” Veerasunthorn is being recognized as one of Animag’s Rising Stars for 2020.
Check out the official announcement from Disney here:
Congratulations to Raya and the Last Dragon’s Head of Story Fawn Veerasunthorn for being named one of @Animag's 2020 Rising Stars of Animation! https://t.co/RvXoyp7OTj pic.twitter.com/ATo7BNdOim

Veerasunthorn, was recently interviewed by Animated Magazine and attributes her start to a visit from a Disney Animator at her high school for planting the seed, didn’t even think a career in animation was possible, until a Thai effects animator who was working at Disney Animation came to give a talk at my high school in Bangkok. His career and story inspired me to apply to art college.”
Fawn’s other Disney credits include Ralph Breaks the Internet, Zootopia, Moana and Frozen. In the interview, she talked briefly about her favorite part of the job, “I love the challenge of starting from a blank page and having to come up with something interesting to engage the audience,” she adds. Of course, she’s most excited to reflect the rich colors and visuals of her own culture in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon. “I’m super excited to bring the beautiful Southeast Asian cultures to the big screen. I’m especially excited to be drawing a female teenage warrior being unapologetically athletic and awesome. I can’t wait for the world to see what we’ve been up to.”
The 37-year-old Thailand native says she would love to direct her own project one day and leaves us with this helpful advice: “The best career advice I got was to apply for a job you want, even if you might not feel ready,” she shares. “And the worst advice was to settle for a comfortable job instead of the one that challenges you!”
The animated film follows Raya, a lone warrior from the fantasy kingdom of Kumandra, who teams up with a crew of misfits in her quest to find the Last Dragon — thus bringing light and unity back to their world. Cassie Steele will voice the lead character Raya, and Awkwafina lends her voice to Sisu, the Last Dragon.
The film is slated to be released this Winter. Readers are encouraged to keep following along for further news and updates!
