Town Hall with Bob Iger and Bob Chapek

Disney employees at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank were not the only ones who got to address both the outgoing and incoming CEO of the Disney Company in a Town Hall style meeting the day after the announcement. The hour-long question and answer session was broadcast to Disney employees around the globe.
According to people who attended the meeting and a report from Deadline.com, neither of the men gave any insight into why the decision was made so abruptly. Many attendees took the mic to thank Iger for his work at CEO and contributions to the company. Iger served as CEO from 2005 to 2020.
Iger will remain chairman of the board and very much has control over creative aspects of the company. This was confusing to employees and although the set-up was described as help for Chapek to transition, the situation was not fully addressed during the town hall meeting. Employees admitted their surprise at the change. Stocks fell. The Coronavirus has caused the temporary closing of both Shanghi and Hong Kong Parks. But, by all accounts Iger and Chapek appeared upbeat and easy on stage (Deadline)
Also not answered were questions about Chapek’s successor (yet to be named). This fueled rumors that Iger stepping down was not planned. Iger did say in response to a question that he fully supported Disney+ and looked forward to Chapek’s involvement with the platform.

Even after the town hall meeting it seems guests, fans, employees, reporters and even the stock market will just have to wait and see what the future holds for Disney senior leadership.
