10 Must-do Experiences for Couples at Disney World
Many people assume that Disney World is “just for kids.” Though I may be a child at heart, I can promise you there are LOTS of fun experiences for adults, too! Next time you’re planning a vacation with other couples, or a vacation with just you and your significant other, consider the following experiences for a totally magical and unforgettable time together.
1. Get a dinner reservation and watch Magic Kingdom fireworks at California Grill
California Grill is one of my favorite places to dine in Disney World. It’s located at the top of the Contemporary resort with an upscale feel and delicious menu options. Perhaps the best part about dining here is the breathtaking view of Magic Kingdom, especially Cinderella’s castle! If you time your reservation just right, you could see the “Happily Ever After” Magic Kingdom fireworks show from your table, or you can head out to one of the observation decks outside of the restaurant that even has speakers with the “Happily Ever After” show music!
2. Stroll around Disney’s BoardWalk
There’s something about Disney’s BoardWalk at night that makes it truly magical. It’s nestled in between the Beach Club, Yacht Club, and BoardWalk Inn resorts in the Epcot resort area. There are a handful of shops and restaurants surrounding a beautiful lake. You can take a casual walk and grab ice cream at Ample Hills Creamery. You could even go dancing at the Atlantic Dance Hall or get some musical entertainment at Jelly Roll’s Piano Bar.
3. Go to the Epcot Food & Wine Festival
Plain and simple – if you like food, you’ll love the Epcot Food & Wine Festival. If you like wine, you’ll love it even more! Every couple should experience an evening (or whole day) snacking and drinking around the world at this festival. There are kiosks around the World Showcase representing many more countries than Epcot typically offers, each with a different flavor and flare. There are even cooking demonstrations, concerts, and other special events to check out while you’re there. This event is NOT to be missed!
4. Indulge in a couple’s massage at Senses Spa at the Grand Floridian
It may seem a bit unusual to consider a spa appointment during an active Disney World vacation, but after so much walking and time in the sun, a relaxing couple’s massage may be exactly what you need! Start with breakfast at the Grand Floridian Café before your spa treatment, and you’ve arranged a relaxing morning at one of Disney World’s most beautiful resorts.
5. Set sail on a private fireworks cruise
To me, there are very few experiences more romantic than a fireworks show. Even better – what if you could watch a fireworks show on your own private boat? Fireworks cruises can be reserved for experiencing Epcot’s “IllumiNations” fireworks or Magic Kingdom’s “Happily Ever After fireworks.” Reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance. If you’re planning a surprise for someone, you can even add decorations and refreshments to your private cruise.
6. Spend a night out in Disney Springs
Disney Springs is a great spot for nightlife in Orlando. While still family friendly, there are many restaurants, bars, and shops to explore in the evening. My favorite places to go are The Boathouse for dinner, Sprinkles for a late-night sweet snack, Jock Lindsay’s Hangar Bar for an Indiana Jones themed experience, Raglan Road for classic Irish pub fare and dancing, and Paradiso 37 for a tropical drink and view of the lake. There’s so much to see, do, and taste here – you won’t get bored!
7. Participate in a Memory Maker Photo Challenge
If you include Memory Maker in your Disney World vacation package, you get digital copies of all of your PhotoPass photos taken during your vacation. Have some fun with this by finding a “photo challenge” online to take some of the silliest or most creative photos in the parks. Or create your own list of fun, memorable photos you want to take together!
8. Go on a carriage ride in Fort Wilderness or at the Port Orleans Resorts
Disney’s Fort Wilderness and the Port Orleans Resorts offer horse-drawn carriage rides for parties of up to four. Whether you choose to have your carriage ride in the rustic outdoors of Fort Wilderness or in the beautiful New Orleans themed resorts, you’re sure to enjoy a relaxing, magical ride together. Carriage rides are about 25 minutes long and reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance.
9. Do a monorail crawl
With three popular resorts surrounding Magic Kingdom on the monorail path, you can plan an evening of “monorail hopping” to try different snacks and drinks at each of these resorts. The three resorts you can visit on the monorail are the beautifully Victorian-themed Grand Floridian Resort, the tropical and blissful Polynesian Village Resort, and the sleek, modern Contemporary Resort. This is a great way to check out these resort lobbies, views of the parks, and the unique snacks, drinks, and shopping they offer!
10. Celebrate an engagement, marriage, or anniversary
No matter what the occasion, Disney World is a great place to celebrate. Make sure to ask your resort front desk or Guest Services at any park for a celebration pin, so others can wish you a happy anniversary or congratulations on your engagement or wedding!
