Walt Disney World Reveals Plans for Resort Hotels, Reservation System & Theme Park Reopening
It’s official! Walt Disney World has submitted their plans to the county and state of Florida to reopen their parks beginning July 11, 2020. The Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are scheduled to reopen on July 11 while Hollywood Studios and EPCOT are scheduled for a July 15 reopening.
As you can expect, once the Walt Disney World Theme Parks reopen, things are going to look a little different. Disney plans to reopen things in a “phased and deliberate” approach. This means that certain experiences might be limited and/or temporarily suspended for the time being. Disney has confirmed that there will be no parades and nighttime spectaculars initially. “High-touch” experiences such as makeover opportunities, playgrounds and character meet and greets will remain temporarily unavailable, but characters will still be in our parks to entertain and delight Guests.
Walt Disney World Reservation System Upon Reopening
Upon reopening, Walt Disney World will be implementing a reservation system to manage attendance. All Guests will be required to have a reservation made in advance to enter the Parks. Details on how this system will work are to be announced at a later time.
Resort Hotel Reservations
Disney has released a statement saying that have temporarily suspended ticket sales and new hotel reservations. However, I am currently able to book new hotel reservations beginning July 11.
In addition, Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World will reopen to members and guests and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will begin to reopen on June 22!
Walt Disney World Annual Passholders
If you are a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder, you will be able to take part in the reopening magic earlier than the general public. Annual Passholder preview days will be offered at select Parks prior to them opening on July 11 and July 15. More details are forthcoming.
Disney Springs
Disney Springs reopened to the public last Wednesday, May 20. Today, the World of Disney Store as well as the Marketplace Co-Op and D-Luxe Burger also reopened.
Face Coverings and Social Distancing Guidelines
In regards to face coverings and other social distancing and health procedures upon reopening, Walt Disney World has released the following statement:
“We’re looking forward to reopening our theme parks, Disney Resort hotels and stores and doing so in a responsible way. In this spirit, our destinations will continue to follow enhanced safety protocols based upon applicable guidance from health authorities and government agencies. As we all must work together to promote the health and safety of everyone, cast members as well as guests 3 years of age and older will be required to wear appropriate face coverings in theme parks and common areas of resort hotels. All guests will also undergo temperature screenings prior to entering a theme park; cast members will also have temperature checks. Cashless transactions are recommended, and cleaning and disinfection procedures will be increased in high-traffic areas.”
“Additional information on enhanced health and safety measures and operational changes for reopening locations will be shared soon. These policies are under continuous review and are subject to change as we monitor conditions and receive guidance from health and government authorities.”
