Crispy, salty, golden, hot, crunchy, potato-y, crinkle, straight, curly, batter dipped, waffled, double fried…are you hungry yet? Just reading those words makes my taste buds do a double back flip and gets my stomach rumbling, and I know yours is too because no one, and I mean no one can pass up a fresh, piping hot pile of fries! On July 13th, you don’t have to feel guilty about ordering a big serving of fries with your lunch or dinner, because National French Fry Day is here just in time to give everyone the excuse they’ve been searching for to fill up on everyone’s favorite side: French fries (and Disney French fries!)
You can celebrate National French Fry Day from wherever you are in the country, but if you happen to be in Walt Disney World during this very important holiday, your search for the perfect fry won’t lead you more than a few steps from wherever you happen to be standing at the Resort. Yes, there really are THAT many places to order fries…but all true fry fans know one thing to be true: all fries are not created equal. My dad prefers a straight cut traditional fry above all the others, my best friend is obsessed with big steak-style fries, and my personal preference are the batter dipped variety. There are nearly as many versions of the potato-y indulgence around the Resort as there are restaurants themselves, so let’s explore all the options so you can choose the fry joint that will quell your cravings on National French Fry Day!
Classics
You can’t beat the classic straight cut potato that’s been fried to a crisp golden brown color and generously sprinkled with salt. When places try to get all fancy with their fries, they never hit the spot like the age-old classics. To start off National French Fry Day, visit the walk up window at Yorkshire County Fish Shop (aka the quick serve attached to Rose and Crown) for a classic steak-style pile of fries that is always served piping hot! Contrary to the fish that comes from the very same window, the fries are not laden with grease and usually need a little extra sprinkling of salt to properly enhance the chew that comes from that soft potato-y center!
I’m about to let you in on a secret that I was seriously contemplating leaving out of this article, because there is never a line for the made to order fries that are one of my all time favorites…and I’m not sure I’m ready to let the word out! I was taught to share, so it is with only slight hesitation that I tell you to head over to Disney’s Boardwalk and make your way out to the mobile burger cart located directly across the boards from Trattoria Al Forno. I recommend stopping by for a full meal because the burgers are seriously some of the best at the Resort…and the fried-to-order French fries are just as awesome…if not even better! Second to the piping hot crispiness, my favorite part of the experience is being handed a heavy, grease-soaked brown paper bag full of fries through the window!
Hand-cut fries are all the rage nowadays, and if you’ve ever had the golden fried boxes full of deliciousness they are serving over at D Luxe Burger in Disney Springs, you’ll know why! The orders from D Luxe are massive…so massive that my mom and I couldn’t even finish their smallest option! The way to go here is to order the shareable meal that comes with 2 burgers, drinks, and an order of fries to share!
As much as I love a straight French fry, I’m a closeted waffle fry lover from way back (shhh don’t tell regular fries!) and whenever I’m around Frontierland at lunchtime, you’ll find me in line at Golden Oak Outpost. If you spot me in the line chances are I’ll have a far-off look in my eyes, a smile on my face, and drool on my chin because I know that soon, I’ll have a hot, VERY crispy, salty, massive waffle fry in my mouth right where it belongs! I’ve gotten waffle fries from here that rivaled the size of my cell phone, and the flavor and freshness never disappoint!
Toppings, Tots, and Treats
Tater tots are not French fries, I know, but a potato that has been cut and fried qualifies in my book, and on National French Fry Day, anything goes! The newest offerings over at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Magic Kingdom include loaded tater tots that have guests Instagramming, blogging, and lining up for their chance to taste the hottest new item since French fries themselves. There are three varieties to choose from (buffalo chicken, fiesta, and Greek) that are diverse enough to satisfy every possible craving.

Speaking of options, The Daily Poutine at Disney Springs is, of course, the place to go if you want the most classic incarnation of loaded fries at the Resort. The classic poutine starts with a French fry base and is then generously topped (read: smothered) with beef gravy and dotted with fresh cheese curds and is recommended for all the first time Poutine-goers…but it’s the Latin Poutine that haunts my dreams! The black beans and pulled pork that top the bed of golden fries are finished off with a heaping helping of queso fresco (hold the yucca please), and no matter which of the menu offerings appeals to you, you should certainly plan to share because the portions are big enough to be considered lunch all on their own!
Finally, a National French Fry Day article would not be complete without a shout out to the Disney fan favorite loaded fry dish from The Plaza Restaurant in Magic Kingdom! If you’ve never eaten at The Plaza, use the holiday as your excuse to give it a shot. The Plaza Loaded Fries have garnered themselves Disney food fame not only for their sheer enormity, but for their low cost and generous toppings! The Plaza Loaded Fries are only $8.00 are absolutely big enough to count as lunch, and when you consider the cost of a regular quick serve lunch (usually $12-15 per person), you’d be silly to go anywhere BUT The Plaza for this drool-worthy indulgence! Topped with cheese, bacon pieces, tomatoes, and ranch dressing, the fries are best eaten as soon as they’re served…that way, the rest of your party won’t be able to steal any from your plate!
