Kevin Feige Reveals How Marvel Will Work the X-Men Into the MCU
While Marvel Studios has struggled in recent years to reach the same heights that it did with the Infinity Saga, the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine could change all of that.
Not only will the third installment in the Deadpool franchise feature the return of Ryan Ryenolds’ Merc with the Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, but it will also seemingly lay the foundation for the X-Men to finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

As Marvel’s Multiverse Saga has unfolded, the arrival of mutants, specifically the X-Men, has been increasingly teased. First, a variant of Professor Charles Xavier appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Then, it was revealed that Ms. Marvel was not an Inhuman but a mutant. Finally, Kelsey Grammer reprised his role as Beast in The Marvels.
Kevin Feige Talks the Arrival of the X-Men
With Deadpool & Wolverine set to bridge the gap between the Fox X-Men movies and the MCU, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is teasing fans will soon see both familiar faces and new characters enter the MCU. In a recent interview with io9, Feige stated that Marvel’s mutant strategy will follow the same pattern that the studio chose with its Spider-Man characters.

“Well, it’s that phrase we use often at Marvel, which is ‘It’s an embarrassment of riches. And there are a lot of great X-Men characters in the Deadpool & Wolverine film. There are a lot of great X-Men characters in all of the Fox versions of the X-Men films. And there are a lot of great X-Men characters that have never gone on the big screen,” he said.

“So I think as we always try to do, as we did when we made the arrangement with Sony for Spider-Man, you’ll probably see a mix of characters you’ve seen before and characters you’ve never seen before.”
Lessons From ‘X-Men ’97’
While the X-Men have yet to officially make their MCU debut, Marvel Studios did have a major success earlier this year with the animated X-Men ’97. According to Feige, while the show is not set within the MCU, Marvel learned lessons from the show’s accomplishments.
“I think the success of X-Men ’97 was really exciting for us to see people revisit and reconnect with that world. And dare I say, the soap opera elements of that world, which is one of the things that’s so exciting to us about jumping into it finally in the MCU.”

Marvel fans have had to wait years to see the X-Men finally enter the MCU. However, by the sound of things, they won’t have to wait much longer.
