Update: Disney Releases Official Statement Regarding Skyliner Breaking Down
Walt Disney World had to close its Skyliner system yesterday evening when an unknown event left guests stranded for hours in the gondolas.
According to clickorlando.com, Disney released the following statement regarding the closure, “One of three Disney Skyliner routes experienced an unexpected downtime on Saturday evening. As a result, the Skyliner will remain closed while we look into the details surrounding the downtime. We apologize for this situation and we are working with each guest individually regarding impacts to their visit with us.”
Here’s some footage showing guests being evacuated:
There is much speculation regarding the closure. Some sources are reporting that a stretcher was used to remove one of the guests from a gondola. Other guests are suggesting a crash was heard before the Skyliner came to a halt This seems to be corroborated with pictures showing what looks like two cars colliding at the Skyliner station at Disney’s Riviera Resort. It was also suggested that evacuation attempts were hindered when the Skyliner kept stopping and starting during rescue attempts.
Here’s some footage from a guest at the scene;
