‘The Marvels’ Suffers the Biggest Second-Weekend Drop-Off In Marvel History
Any hope that The Marvels could perform an Elemental-like turnout at the box office has dissipated after another disappointing weekend for the film
The Captain Marvel sequel earned a dismisal $2.8 million on Friday and is now tracking towards a second-weekend total of $9 to $10 million.

The Marvels is now looking at a second-weekend drop-off of 78 to 80 percent. That number would be the worst second-weekend drop-off in Marvel history, as well as the worst for any superhero movie.

Earlier this year, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania previously set the new low for Marvel with a 69 percent drop off.
More Competition is Coming
Unlike Elemental which received a Cinema Score of an “A” from audiences, The Marvels has received a more tepid response. The film holds a solid 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but only a “B” on Cinema Score.

With Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Trolls Band Together now in theaters and Disney’s Wish on the horizon, any future box office prospects for The Marvels look bleak.
Marvel Gets a Much-Needed Break
Up next on the docket for Marvel, is Deadpool 3, which will be the only Marvel Studios film released next year.

The break in releases should help Marvel. Not only will it theoretically build anticipation, and make Marvel film releases feel like an event again, but it will also give the studio a chance to slow down and plot out its future.

Perhaps then, looking back, Marvel will see The Marvel’s box office failure as a blessing in disguise. For now, however, it is an abject disaster.
