About January Visits
Look, I don’t care how much you love all the winter clothes you received as holiday gifts this year. The truth is that you’d rather not wear them.

In a perfect world, we’d all enjoy summer all year long, which explains why so many people (like me) live in the south.
You just can’t argue with the weather. It’s a lot easier to throw on a jacket or the air conditioning than to crank up the heat.

Many people spend the winter daydreaming about a trip to literally anywhere warm.
You’ll find that place at Walt Disney World, and it’ll come with Disney vacation magic as well!
Historically, Disney experienced an off-season in January. Those days are gone, as clever tourists have discovered the truth.
Disney is almost as good in January as in December. Sure, you’re missing the holiday decorations and shows, but it’s still Disney.
Just as importantly, you’re not gritting your teeth as you scrape ice off your car because you’re in Central Florida. In fact…

Let’s Talk about the Weather in January
Okay, I guess I should add a bit of honest caution here. I am not 100 percent sure Disney will be warm during your visit.
On a handful of occasions over the past few years, the temperature has dropped under 50 degrees. It’s rare, but it happens.

Of course, depending on where you live, a temperature in the 40s might sound like the warm spell you need.
Realistically, you should expect substantially warm temperatures. Even though wild weather swings are a thing now, Disney typically remains warm.

In Orlando, the average daily high temperature is 71 degrees, with a general range of 59 to 81 degrees.
That’s right, folks. Disney sometimes hits 80 degrees in January! Would you prefer that or wearing your thickest winter coat? Exactly.
On the low temperature side, the average is 52 degrees, with most days falling between 39 and 65 degrees.
Let’s combine those thoughts so that you know what to expect. On a “cold” day in Orlando in January, you can expect a high of 59 and a low of 39.

On a warm day in January, Orlando never drops below 65 degrees and reaches 81 degrees.
Splitting the difference, it’s fair to expect weather ranging from 52 to 71 degrees. You’ll take that with a song in your heart, won’t you?
There’s a reason why Walt Disney World has grown so popular as a January destination. It’s an escape from freezing cold weather.
Doesn’t that sound lovely?

What to Expect at Disney (DINING PLAN!!!)
A January 2024 visit to Walt Disney World comes with two pleasant bonuses.
First, the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts will return for its eighth year.

Park officials had low expectations for the event in the beginning, making it a weekend-only offering.
Soon afterward, everyone realized that the idea of a celebration of the arts thrilled EPCOT guests. It’s evolved into a wildly popular event.
During the Festival of the Arts, you’ll watch Disney performers entertain throughout the park. We’re talking about moving statues, mimes, and artists.
An eclectic group of Disney characters will appear as well. Some of them are rare.

Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine Prize
While Disney hasn’t said anything, I’ve created my own backstory that they’re drawn to the arts, too.
While that’s a fiction I choose to believe, the non-fiction is that Festival of the Arts is a must-do Disney event these days.

The highlight is unquestionably the DISNEY ON BROADWAY series, wherein performers from actual Disney Broadway plays perform their songs at EPCOT.
They take center stage at America Gardens Theatre, and it’s such a big deal that every show sells out. You’ll want to experience it at some point.

Somehow, the Festival of the Arts isn’t the most significant thing happening at Walt Disney World next January, though.
On January 9th, the Disney Dining Plan will return for the first time since the pandemic’s start.

By that point, nearly four years will have passed since the last date that the dining plan was available.
For this reason alone, you should consider purchasing the dining plan for your January trip.
You’ll want to know whether it’s still as good as you remember. Spoiler: It is!

Other Central Florida Happenings in January
Central Florida feeds off whatever’s happening at Walt Disney World at the time. However, it also hosts plenty of other events.
For example, Broadway in Orlando is hosting…Aladdin from January 3rd through January 7th. Okay, that might not be the best example of non-Disney entertainment.

However, the Orlando Magic will be playing several home games in January. You may catch a few NCAA bowl games early in the month as well.
Orlando City FC probably won’t start its season until February, but it may host some preseason games and exhibition games before then.

Finally, I should mention that the Orlando concert scene has fully recovered since the pandemic.
You can probably find a few excellent concerts in January, presuming you’re willing to exit the Disney Bubble long enough to watch them.
