This Day in Disney History- January 3
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 3.
January 3rd featured a celebration of Disneyland, the closure of a classic attraction at EPCOT, and the end of the west coast Tower of Terror. So, let’s get into it!
Disneyland’s 10th Anniversary Airs (1965)
On this day in 1965, the Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color television series aired “Disneyland’s 10th Anniversary.”
In this episode, Walt Disney introduced viewers to Disneyland’s official ambassador Julie Reihm. Walt also took guests on a tour of WED Enterprises and previewed future additions to Disneyland.
Kitchen Kabaret (1994)
On this day in 1994, Kitchen Kabaret closed at EPCOT.
The Audio Animatronic show opened with the rest of The Land pavilion on October 1, 1982. The show would be replaced by a more “modern” musical revue Food Rocks.
Soarin’ Over California Operates For the Final Time (2016)
On this day in 2016, Soarin’ Over California operated for the final time.
The attraction was closed in order to give Disney time a implement the new Soarin’ Around the World attraction for Epcot’s The Land pavilion.
The Tower of Terror Closes at Disney’s California Adventure (2017)
Finally, on this day in 2017, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror closed at Disney’s California Adventure.
The attraction originally opened in May of 2004, but was closed to be replaced by Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: Breakout!
Interestingly, Mission: Breakout would be the first American Disney attraction to be based on a property from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
