This Day in Disney History: December 2
Welcome back to our unceasing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- December 2.
December 2nd featured the beginning of a legendary Disney career, the release of a Disney classic and the advent of the DVD! Let’s take a closer look.
Marc Davis Begins Working for Disney (1935)
On this day in 1935, Marc Davis began working at Walt Disney Studios.
Davis would go to become one Walt’s “Nine Old Men” working on Snow White, Bambi, Cinderella, Tinker Bell and more.
Following the opening of Disneyland, Davis would shift his focus to the Disney theme parks. He would then help create characters for The Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, It’s A Small World, and the Haunted Mansion.
Davis would eventually be named a Disney Legend in 1989.
That Darn Cat! Released (1965)
On this day in 1965, That Darn Cat! was released.
The film starred Hayley Mills and Dean Jones in a story that involved bank robbers, a kidnaping and of course, a cat.
Disney Releases Their First DVDs (1997)
On this day in 1997 the first Disney DVDs were released.
Titles released at this time included Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, George of the Jungle, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Austin and Ally (2011)
On this day in 2011, Austin and Ally debuted on the Disney Channel.
Set in Miami, the show tells of the relationship between two musicians, Austin Moon (played by Ross Lynch) and Ally Dawson (plated by Laura Marano). The show would continue to run until January 10, 2016.
