Another Weekend of Massive Travel Delays For Air Travelers
It looks like we’re heading into another rough weekend for air travelers. According to a recent piece in USA Today, as of 3pm today, more than 1,100 flights have been canceled in the USA with over more than 3,7000 delayed. The cancellations and delays are being chalked up to aircraft not being ready to fly their first flights after cancellations yesterday.
According to the report, the airline with the most cancelations is American Airlines with 200 flights cut making up about 6% of the airlines scheduled flights for the day.

These delays and cancellations are expected to be heightened further by weekend storms on the East Coast. As you can see from the tweet above, the FAA anticipates delays from Newark, La Guardia, JFK, Miami, Denver and Houston.
A look at the flight board at Orlando International Airport (MCO) shows dozens of cancelled and delayed flights going into this evening. You can check out the updates here.
This weekend’s delays follow a summer that has seen lots of passengers impacted by airline delays and cancelations. This is a result of airlines trimming their schedules and airlines in the US and abroad scramble to adapt to the higher demand for travel after the COVID-19 shutdown.
Many airlines haven’t returned to pre-COVID levels of staffing which means that they’re struggling to find people to work on the already scheduled flights. Airlines like United, Delta, American and JetBlue have responded to the staffing issues but cutting their routes and ending services in some smaller cities.
For those planning on flying in and out of Orlando for a Disney getaway be sure to follow your flight status closely.
USA Today also reminds us that if your flight is canceled and you opt not to travel on a new itinerary, the Department of Transportation mandates that the airline give you refund – EVEN IF YOU PURCHASED A NON-REFUNDABLE TICKET.
In addition, guests are entitled to compensation if you face a significant delay however, what this means is more of a grey area.
