The CDC Has Lowered the Threat Level for Cruises
I am so excited to report that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has just lowered their threat level for cruises to the lowest level it has been before the pandemic started! The CDC now considers cruises a “moderate” risk or level 2 which is down from what is was just at, a “high” risk or level 3.
The CDC bases their threat level for cruises based on the number of cumulative COVID cases within the past 14 days for crew members aboard cruise ships.
At the current moderate level or level 2, that means there is between 500 and 999 cases. For level 3 or the high risk level, the cases would need to be 1,000 and 2,000. The CDC designates level 4 of having a total of 2,001 crew cases within the past 14 days.
While the risk level has been lowered, the CDC still recommends that all Guests aboard cruises are fully-vaccinated and boosted when necessary. Any Guests who are not up-to-date on their COVID vaccination may be at higher risk of severe illness if they would happen to catch COVID during their travels.
In addition, the CDC recommends all cruises continue to wear masks in all indoor locations. However, most cruise lines, including Disney Cruise Line, have just recently dropped their mask mandate for most indoor locations and are not required in outdoor spaces.
If you are worried about COVID during your cruise vacation, you can also check the status and color code of your exact ship on the CDC website. They also list the vaccination status for the crew onboard your ship. Most cruise lines can say that 100% of their crew is fully-vaccinated.
I don’t know about you but I am happy to see the CDC lower the threat level for cruises. I have personally been on two cruises within the past few months and have four more book for 2022 and feel nothing but safe aboard a cruise ship!
