Danny DeVito Joins Cast of Upcoming ‘Haunted Mansion’ Movie
Danny DeVito has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Haunted Mansion movie, which is currently set to premiere Halloween season 2022 if all goes according to plan.
The movie will be The Walt Disney Company’s second time at bringing the tale of the beloved attraction to the big screen, with the previous movie being released in 2003 with Eddie Murphy at the helm.
The 2003 movie, The Haunted Mansion, was a moderate box-office success, with the main complaint being that the story divulged too far away from that of the attraction itself.
Not much is known about the plot of the upcoming Haunted Mansion project other than a mother and son stumble upon a mansion that has a mystery shrouding the grounds and is “more than it seems”.
DeVito’s character has been revealed as a smug professor, with no other plot points known at this time.
DeVito has been acting since 1970 and has worked with The Walt Disney Company a handful of times over the years.
Previous roles with the company include Phil, Hercule’s trainer and sidekick in the 1997 animated feature Hercules, as well as portraying Max Medici in the 2019 live-action adaptation of Dumbo.
Other cast members for Haunted Mansion include Owen Wilson, fresh off of the success of Marvel’s Disney+ series Loki, and Rosario Dawson.
Dawson recently starred alongside Pedro Pascal in the critically acclaimed series The Mandalorian, bringing the beloved character of Ahsoka Tano to life.
It is assumed the film will go in the opposite direction of the recently released Muppets Haunted Mansion, which put a comedic spin on the tale of the attraction while involving beloved characters Gonzo and Pepe the King Prawn.
