Changes Coming to Help Avengers Campus Lines
Disneyland is making changes that will ease the lines in Avengers Campus.
According to the OC Register, “Many of the problems Disney California Adventure faced during the opening weekend of Avengers Campus were related to COVID-19 health and safety restrictions that will be lifted on June 15.”
Overwhelming demand
The operations team at Disneyland has been making adjustments to deal with the overwhelming demand from Marvel and Disney fans to visit Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.
On opening weekend, guests were faced with a mile-long line to enter Disney California Adventure. There was also a shortage of spots in the virtual queue for Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure.
These kinds of lines are the last thing Disneyland wants – they’re always striving for the best guest experience possible. Plus, they want to move as many people through the new land to keep the excitement up.
Pandemic restrictions lifting?
On June 15, the state of California will be lifting pandemic restrictions. Disneyland hasn’t disclosed specifics on changes to park operations, other than allowing out-of-state visitors.
We know that Disneyland will work to provide a safe park experience in line with state and local COVID-19 guidelines. But will they reduce social distancing? If they increase capacity, as they’re expected to do, how will they improve traffic flow in Avengers Campus?
Current rules have park capacity at 25% – which has been estimated at 12,500 visitors to California Adventure per day.
Web Slingers
So far the new Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure attraction has has been working well with few downtimes. When down, it hasn’t taken long to get back online.
Web Slingers uses a virtual queue, like Rise of the Resistance, to funnel guests through the attraction. So far, those passes have been claimed seconds after showing up on the Disneyland app. But because the ride has been working well the back-up wait list has been able to get on Web Slingers since the opening.
This bodes well for capacity increases in the park.
Guests are getting hangry
Getting food in Avengers Campus was a real headache on opening weekend. The mobile ordering system was a mess – some people had to wait in lines for hours after designated pick-up time to get their food.
Mobile orders were sold out before 9:30 a.m. on opening day for the two options- Pym Test Kitchen and Shawarma Palace food cart.
Now Pym Test Kitchen has mobile order time slots available every two hours, all day long. You have to be in Avengers Campus to place your order.
And the Shawarma Palace food cards are now available for walk-up orders only. They’ve even added three more outdoor vending carts to keep up with demand.
Additional tables for outdoor eating have been spotted in Avengers Campus, and it’s reported that more are coming.
Superhero showtimes?
Guests visiting Avengers Campus can accidentally bump into Black Widow, Thor and Iron Man for superhero training. But so far Disney has refused to post showtimes — keeping the crowds lingering in hopes of catching one of the shows.
We’ll be keeping an eye on showtime listings in the Disneyland app for updates. We expect Avengers Campus showtimes to appear soon.
We can only hope that changes to operations in Avengers Campus will make guests happy and entice new guests to visit.
