The State of Emergency Declared by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Includes Walt Disney World Area
We’ve been keeping a close eye on the looming tropical storm making its way to Florida.
Florida is no stranger to large weather events, with each year promising to bring a handful to their doorstep. However, it’s important to make the necessary preparations to brace for the incoming impact of these storms, which is exactly why Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just declared a State of Emergency. Here’s everything we know.
State of Emergency
This afternoon, Governor Ron DeSantis officially declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the tropical disturbance heading toward Florida. According to the Executive Order, the State of Emergency was declared due to the likelihood of the storm developing into a tropical depression, the possibility of at least twelve inches of rain over seven days, the risk of flooding and high winds, the anticipation of widespread power outages, and the possible damage to critical infrastructure.
The State of Emergency affects the following counties: Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Calhoun, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Escambia, Flagler, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Hernando, Hillsborough, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Monroe, Nassau, Okaloosa, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Santa Rosa, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, Volusia, Wakulla, Walton, and Washington.
The Orlando Sentinel cites that the National Hurricane Center gives the system “a 30% chance to develop in the next two days and 70% within the next seven.” Residents in the affected areas can expect heavy downpours, gusty winds, and possible localized flooding. We’ll know more in the coming days.
So far, Disney hasn’t predicted that the storm will impact operations. If Disney anticipates that the storm will affect the resort/your trip, they will update this page with important information. (We’ll also let you know as well.)
We’ll keep watching this storm and update you if anything changes, so stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com for the latest.
