A Tropical System Could Be Heading Towards Florida
Just yesterday, we reported on a tropical system that could potentially impact your upcoming Disney World vacation.
The National Hurricane Center is tracking a system that had a medium chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm.
As of 2pm today, the National Hurricane Center has upped those odds to 50/50.
Latest Weather Update
If you are visiting Walt Disney World this week, central Florida is expected to be hot, with the potential for daily storms, which is typical for this time of year.
However, local meteorologists are monitoring an area of disturbed weather over the central tropical Atlantic. They expect it to interact with an approaching tropical wave in the next few days.
Forecasters predict that environmental conditions are conducive for some possible development, and a tropical depression could form later on in the week.
The NHC is predicting a 50% chance of this tropical disturbance developing within the next week, an increase from yesterday’s original forecast.
The tropical wave itself is moving west at about 12 mph about 900 miles east-northeast of Antigua and Barbuda and 1200 miles east of Puerto Rico. Should it gain enough strength, it could become Tropical Storm Debbie.
The projected path includes the northern Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and Cuba, or either coast of Florida. Another path could be heading towards the Gulf of Mexico.
