‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Sold More First-Day Tickets Than Any “R” Rated Film Ever
Following a disappointing 2023, Marvel Studios has decided to only release one film to theaters this year — Deadpool & Wolverine.
The upcoming film will not only be the first Deadpool film produced by Marvel Studios, but it will also be the first MCU film to receive an “R” rating.
The third installment in the Deadpool franchise will see Hugh Jackman reprise his iconic role as Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s Logan. Additionally, Deadpool & Wolverine is set to bridge the gap between the MCU and the 20th Century Fox X-Men movies. Needless to say, anticipation is high.

With Marvel putting all of their eggs in one basket, the studio desperately needs Ryan Reynolds and his team to deliver a hit. Luckily, early signs are all pointing in the right direction.
Record-Breaking Ticket Sales
Just one day after it was announced that Deadpool & Wolverine had sold more first-day pre-sale tickets than any of the franchise’s previous installments comes the news that so far, the film has sold an astounding $8 million in first-day tickets.

That number easily bested the mark set by other superhero films, including The Batman ($6.5 million), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($6 million), and John Wick: Chapter 4 ($1.4 million). In fact, Deadpool & Wolverine’s $8 million first-day ticket sales were the highest for any R-rated movie ever.
AMC head Adam Aron took to X to share the news, writing, “Many big movies will open in May, June & July. Including Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Opens July 25. Some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already. This is more Day 1 ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated movie ever.”

Is Marvel Back?
If the early results are any indication, Deadpool & Wolverine could be heading for a massive opening weekend and could easily be Marvel’s first $1 billion movie since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
