The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure Goes On a National Tour
“The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” which uses Pixar’s Soul as a launching point to educate visitors on Jazz and Soul music has been winning over guests at the American Adventure in the World Showcase.
The exhibition was first introduced to Disney World as a tribute to a musical art form featured in Pixar’s hit film. The exhibit has proved so popular that Disney just announced that it will be going on a national tour to cities where jazz took root and grew into the genre we know today.
Beginning on October 26, 2021 and running into next year, the exhibit will be visiting the following museums.
- The New Orleans Jazz Museum
- American Jazz Museum (Kansas City)
- National Jazz Museum (Harlem)
Walt Disney world partnered with the museums to recreate the experience that guests fell in love with at EPCOT for visitors and residents to enjoy right in their hometown. This is also the perfect way to illustrate the legacy each of these regions had on Jazz’s dynamic.
Jon Batiste, Musician and co-composer of Soul said that he hopes the takeaway from this exhibit was the way the music makes people want to sing, dance and transcend everyday life. Batiste remarked, “Jazz really has the ability to do that and add to that vision in a way that’s tremendous.”
Below is a clip featuring John Dennis who is executive creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering who along with Jon Batiste give us a bit of an overview of this incredible project.
Each installment of “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” will feature a unique collection of artifacts curated by local museums.
Visitors will also find two maquettes of characters Joe Gardner and Dorothea Williams. Visitors will also be invited to snap a photo with Joe and the band and can even test their knowledge of jazz and interacting with the exhibit via the Play Disney Parks mobile app.
The first stop on this national tour is New Orleans known as the “birthplace of Jazz.” The exhibit will open on October 26th at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
Next stop is the American Jazz Museum in Kansas Missouri where it will open on December 10th. The last stop will be the National Jazz Museum located in New York History which was home to the Harlem Renaissance where celebrated icons like Duke Ellington once performed.
