Minnie Mouse to Receive Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
It’s been 40 years since Mickey received his star on the famous Hollywood walk of fame, an honor never before granted to a cartoon character. Mickey’s star was installed on the walk of fame in 1978, the year of his 50th birthday. Mickey started the trend of non-human star recipients, and other Disney legends such as Donald Duck, Tinker Bell, and Snow White followed in his footsteps.
Minnie Mouse first appeared in Steamboat Willie alongside Mickey himself and became instantly popular with Walt Disney’s fan base. Maybe it’s a sign of the times, but Minnie is finally getting the recognition she rightfully deserves in 2018.
At 11:30am on January 22, 2018, the wait will officially be over, and Minnie will be presented with her star. Katy Perry and Bob Iger will be on hand at the ceremony to present the polka dot queen with this honor.
Speaking of polka dots…its extra fitting that Minnie’s ceremony will take place on National Polka Dot Day! I don’t know about you, but I know I’ll be rocking some polka dots on January 22nd to commemorate Minnie’s long-awaited honor.
Ana Martinez, the producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame spoke on the subject and stated: “Minnie Mouse is a woman of the ages and her iconic status makes her a great addition to our Walk of Fame.” Ana agrees that Minnie is a female icon truly worth of a star. I hope Minnie’s addition to the Walk of Fame will empower women and girls everywhere to use their imaginations and reach for the stars, because today, being a female is more challenging, exciting, and wonderful than ever before. Congratulations, Minnie!
