Disney Reveals First Look at Lionel Messi-Produced Animated Series ‘Messi and the Giants’
After dominating world soccer for much of this century, Lionel Messi is setting his sights on a new arena: television.
He’s the executive producer of a new children’s animated series titled Messi and the Giants, a sports-fantasy story about a boy “who becomes trapped in an alternate reality ruled by giants.”

To get home, protagonist Leo must “compete in high-stakes, soccer-like battles using powerful ‘orbs,’ defeat legendary giants, and restore the fractured realms of ‘Iko.'”
Messi and the Giants will debut on Disney+ and Disney Channel next year. Producers and directors presented a first look to a raucous San Diego Comic-Con Málaga crowd on Friday, with Disney subsequently sharing the trailer on social media.

The trailer follows Leo as he’s sucked into the otherworldly realm of Iko.

It’s there that he encounters potential friends and what are almost assuredly foes.

The trailer includes the show’s theme song: “Vamos, Vamos, Vamous,” which was recorded by Argentine musician Luck Ra. Milo Burgess-Webb, a fellow Argentinian, will voice Leo.

Messi and the Giants is a product of Sony Pictures Television and Sony Music Vision. Atlantis Studios, a Spanish company, handled the animation.

In the show, Leo does not have access to “the world’s code powers to supercharge his game.” He must instead rely “on his real strengths—skill, teamwork, and determination.”

The series will debut next summer.

Funnily enough, Disney+ and Disney Channel already have another sports-fantasy series featuring a soccer-like game. The anime-inspired Dragon Striker debuted on Disney+ this past June to generally positive reception.
Messi and the Giants, in addition to a different animation style, appears to skew toward a younger demographic.
