Disney Rumors for October 2026
This time in Disney Rumors, we’ll discuss the story nobody can say with a straight face.
Once we’ve finished laughing at that, we’ll evaluate the future of Tomorrowland.

No, Disney’s not going to tear down a mountain…at least not that one.
Let’s evaluate a few options in this month’s Disney Rumors.
Bartender, He’s Had Enough
I’ve addressed a few wild Disney Rumors in the history of this article. Not that long ago, I gave credence to a shocking premise at Magic Kingdom.
I told you I’d heard that Disney may pave over the Rivers of America and landlock the park. Well, we all know how that one turned out, even though the idea didn’t pass the laugh test.

As such, I try to hold to the notion that an idea is innocent until proven guilty. In the case of Disneyland Park, I’m acutely aware of the underlying issue here.
New Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro loves the parks and wants to place his stamp on them. He knows that the overriding issue at The Happiest Place on Earth is a lack of space.

So, when Disney announced its intent to remake Tomorrowland, questions arose. Fans understandably wondered which parts of this themed land would survive the makeover.
Since the beginning, Disney has struggled with the pressure of maintaining the premise here.

Disneyland’s 71 years old, and that’s a long time to keep Tomorrowland seeming futuristic. As things stand, Space Mountain constantly faces questions about its modernity.
Other parts of Tomorrowland and its surrounding area feel a bit wasteful.

With real estate so precious at the park, attractions with larger footprints must justify their existence. An Instagram account I don’t know, Sometimes Castles, recently leaned into this fact.
The influencer(s) wondered whether Disney may reclaim the land at Matterhorn Bobsleds.

Some other, less reputable sources have run with the story, misreporting the intent. This person is clearly just speculating rather than saying they’ve heard something.
Still, the combustible nature of the Rumor made it a clickbaiter’s dream.
The Tomorrowland Dilemma
Before we dismiss the idea entirely, we should acknowledge some truths. Disneyland built multiple attractions that are technically beyond the park’s boundaries.
In fact, the company has been doing this since the mid-1960s! So we’re talking about a known issue for 60 years, one without an easy solution.

Tomorrowland
At some point, park planners will need to make some hard choices while reinvigorating Tomorrowland. We witnessed Disneyland Park do something similar in the 1980s with New Fantasyland.
More recently, the park closed Mickey’s Toontown for a year to reboot it. Something similar may yet happen with Tomorrowland once construction begins.

Mickey’s Toontown
A lot depends on how comprehensive a job Disney does in reimagining the space. I expect an exhaustive redesign of the area, which means something’s gotta give.
Sometimes Castles correctly points out three different action spots for such a big move.

Matterhorn Bobsleds
Disney could feasibly reclaim the land at Autopia, the Matterhorn, or Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Alternatively, Disney may simply make do with what it has, using creative approaches to be more efficient.
Which Would You Pick?
I’m not ruling out anything here…except the Matterhorn itself. Disney would be flying in the face of its storied history by making that move.
After Disneyland opened, Walt Disney realized his fans hungered for more. So, he planned a daring expansion that arrived in 1959 and featured three huge additions.

Nemo’s Submarine Voyage
The Disneyland Monorail was one, while Matterhorn Bobsleds and Submarine Voyage were the others. Disney later re-themed the submarine ride to make it more appealing to kids.
Even after that, its popularity has remained underwhelming relative to many rides. Thus, I could understand Disney viewing that space as a poor use of real estate.

Matterhorn Bobsleds
Meanwhile, the Matterhorn signifies a daring achievement by Walt Disney himself. He loved splashy creations that drew tons of media attention.
Building an artificial mountain in the middle of Disneyland definitely fit the bill. In the process, Disney triggered the first great roller coaster race at theme parks.

Nobody had ever constructed a tubular steel roller coaster like it, and people noticed. Still, I think we’d all acknowledge that Matterhorn Bobsleds has grown a bit long in the tooth.
Multiple generations of coasters have arrived since then, making it feel a bit stale. That’s why so many clickbaiters jumped on this story. It’s just believable enough for people to buy the Rumor.
The Future of Tomorrowland
I don’t, though. The main source pushing this story is notoriously duplicitous. That Instagram account even references them as supposedly having an inside source.
Even if the site does, let’s be clear that Disney weighs hundreds of possibilities each week. At most, two or three of them ever advance to the construction stage.

Tomorrowland in Disneyland
So, whether the story is real or imagined doesn’t even matter. The crux of the idea does, though. How will Disney populate the next Tomorrowland?
Will Imagineers use the existing space in exciting new ways? Alternatively, will Disney tear down an existing attraction with a large footprint?

Disneyland Park Tomorrowland Autopia
If the company chooses the latter approach, will it rebuild the destroyed attraction elsewhere? Most variants of the Matterhorn Rumor indicate that a rebuild would occur.
I’m unclear as to how that solves anything, as there’s not an obvious place to stick a new mountain.

So, I’ve got questions about a lot of these premises, even if we presume they’re in any way based in fact.
Final Thoughts
Still, Disney WILL redesign Tomorrowland in an attempt to reinvigorate the space. Right now, it’s a bad look for the quasi-futuristic land to look a bit dated.
Magic Kingdom faced the same problem during the 2010s, and here we are now. Disney has quietly revamped several attractions in the area while adding TRON Lightcycle / Run.

TRON Lightcycle / Run
Presumably, the company hopes to do something similar at Disneyland Park. We just don’t know what form it will take and likely won’t for at least another 18 months.
In truth, I’m not expecting any real confirmation until the 2028 D23 Expo. So, yeah. I view all these conversations as wildly speculative and generally baseless.

Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom
At some point, Disney will do something, obviously.
Since we’re still awaiting the Avatar land, the one confirmed in early 2023, I doubt much has happened with Tomorrowland.
