Bakari the Gorilla Undergoes First Wellness Exam at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Earlier this year, we shared the exciting news that Bakari, a western lowland gorilla, had made his debut on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s newest resident arrived from the Saint Louis Zoo and has been settling in ever since.

Bakari’s arrival marked an important milestone for Animal Kingdom, as the 21-year-old silverback has taken over as the troop’s new leader following the departure of Gino, the beloved gorilla who helped shape generations of the troop.
“Bringing Bakari here is bittersweet because it means we’ve said goodbye to Gino, who was our silverback for almost 30 years since the park’s opening,” said Rachel, animal care manager with Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment.

“But it’s also incredibly exciting. Bakari is the future of this family troop, and we’re looking forward to watching him grow into that role and hopefully help welcome new generations of gorillas for years to come.”
Bakari’s Integration
The last time we checked in on Bakari, we shared that he was being slowly integrated into his new family.
