Disney Headlines for September 15th, 2026
This past week, Disney changed its announcement strategies.
First, the company revealed its festival plans well in advance.

Then, Disney quietly changed some rather crucial wording on its website.
Meanwhile, the Mighty Ducks and Disney will once again fly together. We’ve got a lot to parse in this week’s batch of Disney Headlines.
A Confusing Timeline

Disney’s Animal Kingdom needs a boost right now after a rough year. Early in 2026, DinoLand USA permanently closed, shutting down multiple attractions in the process.
Disney promptly introduced the new Bluey experience, Bluey’s Wild World. Even after taking that step, the park feels a bit empty right now.

Sure, the animals will always put a smile on your face, and they’re the park’s spiritual core.
In terms of rides, let’s just say that Animal Kingdom definitely needs more.

Well, we know that three of them are coming soon. The question is when. Disney began construction on the Tropical Americas long before DinoLand USA closed.
Throughout the build, Disney’s website has confidently stated a timeline. We had known that the new themed land would debut in 2027.
Well, it still might, but Disney just made its fans a bit nervous.
The company updated its website and removed the target date for Tropical Americas.

What does this mean? Possibly nothing. I’m not being optimistic when I say that, either. We shouldn’t parse Disney’s actions to read too much into them. That path leads to madness.
Still, this move aligns with what I’ve been hearing for a while now. Disney has swung for the fences with the Tropical Americas, wanting the themed land to fit the park.

This project requires a ton of unique details and high levels of precision.
As such, Imagineers understandably don’t want to rush anything, as that’s how mistakes get made.

The Tropical Americas will consist of three new rides plus an abandoned temple and an entire village. With so many moving parts, Disney has correctly chosen to recalibrate expectations.
My understanding is that parts of the Tropical Americas may yet open in 2027. Disney simply doesn’t know for sure yet and is adjusting accordingly.
Another Changed Approach

2026 Food & Wine Festival
I like that Disney has taken this step rather than providing misleading intel.
For a while now, theme park analysts have requested more transparency from Disney.

This move isn’t quite that since Disney hasn’t actually said anything yet. It’s a step in the right direction, though, and I’ll take that. If Disney doesn’t know something, it should just say that.
On a similar note, this year’s EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival frustrated some.
For whatever reason, Disney proved light on details until, well, August.

Since the event started in August, this lack of information again confused fans.
People couldn’t plan their vacations around festival specifics since we didn’t have them all.

Disney clearly heard those complaints, as it’s taking a different approach for 2027.
This move hearkens back to one involving Disneyland from late last year.

Historically, this park faced the same issues, with Disney finally choosing to do something about it. In December, Disneyland posted its full schedule for 2026 and proved almost entirely accurate.
Now, Walt Disney World has received something similar, at least at EPCOT. Disney just revealed the exact dates for its first two festivals of 2027.

The company is doing this only a few weeks after finally providing details for its current festival. So, the contrast feels timely and impossible to ignore. Disney seems to have said, “Fine.”
“Do you want festival information? Here’s everything for January through May.”
Oh, and Disney posted all its Disney After Hours dates from January through August 2027.

Combined with the various 2027 vacation packages, tourists can plan their trips.
For once, fans know specifics for the next nine months of activities at Disney World. Good on you, Disney. And thank you for listening.
Reunited and It Feels So Good

In 1992, Disney released a live-action sports comedy called The Mighty Ducks.
This film genre became a reliable business model for Disney for many years.

None of it would have been possible if the kids’ hockey movie had failed, though.
In fact, NHL history would have been altered if that movie had bombed. After the success of The Mighty Ducks, Disney purchased an NHL expansion team the following year.
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim debuted in 1993 and remained a Disney team until 2005.

That’s the year when Disney sold the team to the stadium’s owner, Henry Samuelis. In the process, Disney exited its sports ownership era, having sold the Anaheim Angels in 2003.
Still, connections between Disney and both teams have remained. The bonds have proven particularly strong with the Anaheim Ducks.

The team dropped “Mighty” from its name 20 years ago, but it’s intimately associated with Disney.
Each year, Disneyland Resort hosts Anaheim Ducks Day…and that’s not all.

Starting this season, the relationship between Disney and the team will come full circle.
Throughout the 2026-2027 season, the Ducks will wear Disneyland on their helmets.

The two parties have signed a sponsorship agreement for these logos. According to NHL.com, the collaboration extends beyond helmet sponsorship.
This deal “will include in-arena signage, social media content and broadcast elements.” Disney will also “serve as the presenting sponsor of an Anaheim Ducks home game during the upcoming season.”

So, stay tuned for that! To a larger point, you’ll think of Disney whenever you watch the Ducks play.
That’s how it should be, as Disney never should have sold the team. Disney received $75 million in 2005. The Ducks are worth $1.4 billion today.
