Disney’s Live-Action ‘Moana’ Gets Home Video and Physical Media Release Dates
After finding success with their live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, Disney returned to theaters earlier this year with a new adaptation of Moana.
Released 10 years after the original animated film and two years after Moana 2 dominated the box office, the film was expected to expand the franchise in an exciting new direction.

“In Disney’s live-action reimagining of the beloved Oscar-nominated animated adventure, Moana answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people,” the film’s synopsis reads.
A Box Office Disaster
Leading up to Moana‘s release, expectations were high.

As the release date got closer, however, it became clear that Moana was in trouble.
After a disastrous opening weekend, the film quickly capsized.

By the time Moana‘s box office run ended, the film had managed to gross just $315 million globally.
While Disney put on a brave face, Moana‘s release was clearly a trainwreck.
‘Moana’ Gets Digital and Home Video Release Date
Less than two months after Moana hit theaters, the film has already set a digital and home video release date.

The live-action remake will be available on digital platforms beginning September 8 and will get a physical media release on October 6.
As with other Disney releases, Moana‘s home video release will be accompanied by bonus material, including a sing-along version of the film and featurettes highlighting Laga’aia’s casting, the construction of Motunui, Liufau’s choreography, and Liz McGregor’s costumes.
The final behind-the-scenes featurette sees Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foa’i discussing the Moana soundtrack.
At this time, Disney has not revealed when Moana will hit Disney+. For now, however, fans can look forward to a home video release.
