Disney Announces Innovative Content-Sharing Agreement with TikTok
The Walt Disney Company has long expressed its desire to expand the scope of the Disney+ streaming service, often suggesting the addition of user-created content as one such way the platform could evolve.
The Mouse took its most significant step in this direction yet on Wednesday morning, announcing a “first-of-its-kind” collaboration with TikTok that will bring short-form, fan-generated videos to both TikTok and Disney+.

Disney announced this partnership on its website in the hours leading up to its Q3 2026 earnings call.
Disney Announces Content-Sharing Deal With TikTok

Walt Disney Company
The agreement, per Disney’s announcement, will offer TikTok creators “access to assets related to hundreds of films and series from Disney’s vast library of enduring franchises and beloved IPs,” including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and FX. Videos from creators who opt in to the program will appear on both TikTok and Disney+, particularly the “Verts” section.
The program will launch in the United States “in the coming months,” with an international rollout eyed, but not definitively planned.

Disney+
Disney stresses that this program stems from its belief “that great talent can come from anywhere.” Committed users who take part in the initiative will have access to the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, allowing “best-in-class creators to unlock special rewards and [providing] them with increased visibility, access to exclusive events and career development pathways.”
The company also believes this collaboration will enable users to discover its content in new ways. Per the announcement, an average of “6.5 million Film and TV-related posts” were shared each day on TikTok last year.

The announcement also cites a statistic positing that “half of surveyed viewers said they went on to watch a movie or TV show on a streaming service or television after discovering entertainment content on TikTok.”
At its core, this partnership gives fans another way to discuss and celebrate Disney media. Content consumption is evolving at a rapid pace, and this is an example of the Mouse attempting to adapt to the times.
The Platform’s Evolution

Disney+
The company first introduced user-generated content to the Disney+ streaming service last year with the “Creators Collection.” It also launched the “Verts” vertical video stream in March of this year.
This agreement with TikTok seems like a natural overlap of these features.

Disney’s urgency to add user-generated content to Disney+ is congruent with its desire to position the service as a central hub for all things Disney. Once essentially just an accessible version of the ‘Disney Vault,’ Disney+ is now a much more dynamic platform through which you can engage with the company in a myriad of ways.
Disney’s content sharing agreement with TikTok comes months after a $1 billion agreement with OpenAI fell through. That partnership would’ve allowed users to generate their own short-form AI videos on the Disney+ app.

Disney walked away from the deal in March after OpenAI shuttered its Sora video service.
