‘The Simpsons’ are Returning to ‘Fortnite’ in New Update
To borrow the wise words of genuine Renaissance man Homer Jay Simpson: “You tried your best, and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.”
Disney and Epic Games apparently have not heeded the model employee’s advice, as The Simpsons are set to return to Fortnite.

‘The Simpsons’ Return to ‘Fortnite’

Fortnite
In Disney and Epic’s defense, the iconic family’s first foray into Fortnite was far from a failure. The first crossover between the two entities occurred last November and, per Epic Games, attracted over 80 million players throughout the season’s duration.
This impending update will introduce The Simpsons property and the Springfield map into Fortnite‘s ‘Reload’ mode. We’ll have to wait until next week for any more definitive details.

Disney has leveraged several of its IPs in Fortnite since investing $1.5 billion in Epic Games in 2024, with The Simpsons proving particularly popular. Epic has already announced that The Simpsons will be added to the Fortnite IP Partner Program later this year, allowing players to create their own games using assets from the show.

Disney’s partnership with Epic will ultimately result in an “expansive and open games and entertainment universe.” Though fundamentally a video game, Disney wants this to be a virtual crossroads for all of its various arms.
Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro teased his ambitions for the company’s ultimate presence in Fortnite upon taking the mantle earlier this year, stating, “It could be a new film premiering there. It could be the place that you decide to book your next cruise vacation. You could participate with the Super Bowl in some way there.”

We saw a glimpse of this integration in 2024 when the company streamed its D23 Experiences panel exclusively in Fortnite. Disney-owned characters appearing in the game is a start, but the Mouse’s eventual aspirations seem much loftier.
The Simpsons, meanwhile, also seem to be a brand of note for the company right now. Disney releases special shorts and episodes on Disney+ semi-regularly, including three this summer.

20th Century Animation, a Disney-owned company, is also scheduled to release a new Simpsons movie next year.
