Scalpers, Massive Queueing Prevent Lorcana Drop at UK Disney Store
The Disney Lorcana trading card game has proven incredibly popular since its August 2023 launch, but its popularity has, unfortunately, made it subject to the harsh realities of the larger collectible card game space.
The latest instance of this hobby-wide issue manifested at a London Disney Store on July 17. Massive queues, believed to be augmented by scalpers, formed outside the Oxford Street location in anticipation of the release of the Disney Lorcana Curator’s Collection: Heroines Edition set.

The line became so unmanageable that the store did not open at its planned time. It also delayed the set’s release entirely.
Massive Queue Causes Delay
X user @ItsAMeCooper was in the queue and noted that people started waiting at 5:00 PM on Wednesday for the Thursday release. The line, at its peak, stretched across several blocks.
You thought Pokémon drops were bad?
This is Disney Store Oxford Street now for today’s Lorcana drop.
People have been camping since 5pm, yesterday.
This is mad. Queue goes for 4 blocks, optimistic. I don’t even understand where the queue starts.

Other prospective customers also posted about the unruly line, with X user @DazRollsDice noticing “aggressive behavior” from “scalpers.”
Wow. I have no words! #Lorcana London Oxford St launch cancelled due to violent, aggressive behaviour with scalpers & gangs taking over the queue & pushing to the front of the Disney Store. Sad day for the hobby.

Several other users also noted the presence of scalpers. In the trading card game space, scalpers are individuals who view the products not as a hobby, but as an economic venture.
They often purchase new products in bulk and immediately resell them at an inflated price. This causes product shortages and prevents cards from getting into the hands of those who actually value them, whether it be collectors or children.

The situation at the London Disney Store quickly proved so unwieldy that the location delayed its opening. The Disney Store UK Instagram page announced that the drop had been postponed and that the Oxford Street location was closed indefinitely.
A subsequent post indicated that the store would open “later than usual” on Thursday. The new Lorcana set would not be available for purchase upon opening.

The store has not yet disclosed how it will ultimately roll out the new cards. According to Dexerto’s Nathan Warby, customers faced similar issues at the Disneyland Paris drop of the set, but the store was able to open.
More About Disney Lorcana
Disney Lorcana is constantly increasing in scope with the release of new sets. There are thousands of cards featuring a myriad of Disney characters, allowing you to build a truly unique set.

Unfortunately, it seems the Lorcana scalpers problem will persist until a larger hobby-wide solution is determined.
As always, be sure to keep an eye on MickeyBlog for the latest on all things Disney.
