‘Lilo & Stitch’ Star Daveigh Chase’s Cause of Death Revealed
Earlier this month, Disney fans around the world were devastated to hear that Daveigh Chase, who voiced Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch franchise, had passed away at the age of 35.
After starring as the titular heroine in the 2002 animated classic, Chase went on to reprise her role in Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Leroy & Stitch, Lilo & Stitch: Island Adventures, and Stitch! The Movie.

Over her career, she also voiced Chihiro Ogino in Spirited Away, Joyce Summers in Fillmore!, and portrayed Samara Morgan in The Ring.
Chase Passed Away Earlier This Month
News of Chase’s passing was first shared by her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, who stated that she was suffering from meningitis and sepsis stemming from a blood infection.
Prior to her death, Hernandez set up a GoFundMe for Chase, writing, “After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown L.A. When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.”

Subsequently, her manager told the California Post that Chase had spiraled into addiction and was “too far gone” to collect the millions of dollars in residuals that she had sitting in a bank account.
The Actress’s Cause of Death Has Been Revealed
Just weeks after news of Chase’s passing broke, her cause of death has been revealed.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the actress died of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
The medical examiner also listed “chronic polysubstance use” as a secondary cause of death.

Her father, John David Schwallier, told The New York Times that she had recently been homeless. Additionally, Chase had struggled with drugs since she was 13.
He also revealed that he had not spoken to her in many years.
