A decade after opening its gates, Shanghai Disney Resort continues to grow with new lands, new hotels, and even more Disney magic.

Shanghai Disney Resort officially opened on June 16, 2016, becoming the first Disney resort in mainland China and the sixth Disney destination worldwide.
From the very beginning, the resort embraced the vision of being “Authentically Disney, Distinctly Chinese,” blending Disney storytelling with local culture .

This created a unique experience for guests.
Highlights included Mickey Avenue replacing the traditional Main Street, U.S.A., the beautiful Gardens of Imagination, and Enchanted Storybook Castle! The stunning castle is the largest Disney castle ever built.
Growth and Innovation

The resort quickly became a success, welcoming more than 11 million guests during its first year. Since opening, Shanghai Disney Resort has continued to expand with major additions.
Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land opened in 2018, bringing guests into a larger-than-life toy-filled world!
It featured attractions like Rex’s Racer and Slinky Dog Spin.

In 2023, the resort opened the world’s first Zootopia-themed land!
The immersive area introduced guests to attractions, entertainment, dining, and shopping inspired by the beloved animated film.

The land has continued to evolve with updates tied to the release of Zootopia 2.
Special 10th Anniversary Celebration

To celebrate the milestone anniversary, Shanghai Disney Resort debuted new offerings!
Special entertainment, themed merchandise, returning food favorites, and enhanced nighttime spectaculars joined the celebration.

Even a special gala brought together cast members, Disney executives, Imagineers, and longtime supporters to honor the resort’s first decade.
One of the evening’s most memorable moments featured Disney leaders and beloved Disney characters joining together to light the Wishing Star in front of Enchanted Storybook Castle.
Looking Ahead

The future looks bright for Shanghai Disney Resort.
Construction is already underway on the park’s ninth themed land, inspired by Spider-Man! The new area will feature the resort’s first major Marvel attraction.
The resort is also expanding beyond the theme park with additional hotels and a larger shopping and entertainment district.
The newly announced Shanghai Disney Enchanted Star Hotel is expected to open this winter with approximately 400 rooms and stunning views of Shanghai Disneyland.
